L.S.D. INTO S13

TOOLS: 12MM 14MM 16MM WRENCHES

80W-90 GEAR OIL

LSD FROM 300ZX N.A.

S13/S14 (or ’95-96 J30) VLSD output shafts

M20 AND M16 SIZED WASHERS


THIS IS JUST A BASIC INSTALL INTO A NON ABS, 5 SPEED S13.

1. FIRST START BY LIFTING THE CAR HIGH ENOUGH TO EASILY WORK UNDERNEATH.

2. DRAIN THE DIFF. GEAR OIL

3. REMOVE THE 4 14MM BOLTS HOLDING THE DRIVESHAFT TO THE DIFF.


4. NOW REMOVE THE (6) 12MM BOLTS HOLDING EACH AXLE TO THE DIFF. NOTE: YOU MAY
HAVE TO REMOVE THE EXHAUST TO GET TO THE DRIVERS SIDE AXLE BOLTS.


5. NOW YOU CAN REMOVE THE (4) 16MM NUTS ON THE BACK OF THE DIFF COVER
HOLDING IT TO THE SUBFRAME.

6. NOW PLACE A JACK OR WHATEVER YOU HAVE UNDER THE DIFF. TO SUPPORT IT. REMOVE THE (2) 16MM BOLTS ON THE FRONT OF THE DIFF. IT SHOULD NOW COME OUT PRETTY EASY. JUST BE CAREFUL, IT WEIGHS AROUND 70 LBS AND THE REAR COVER IS ALUMINUM SO DONT DROP IT.


7. ONCE IT IS OUT, TAKE OFF THE REAR COVER AND PULL OUT THE OUTPUT SHAFTS.

8. NOW PLACE THE REAR COVER AND THE NEW OUTPUT SHAFTS ON THE 300ZX LSD. DONT FORGET TO FILL THE DIFF WITH NEW GEAR OIL. THIS IS MUCH EASIER TO DO WHEN THE DIFF. IS OUT OF THE CAR

OK, NOW YOU ARE READY TO INSTALL THE NEW DIFF INTO THE CAR, BUT YOU NEED TO KNOW: THE 240SX DIFF HAS 6 MOUNTING POINTS THAT MOUNT SOLID TO THE SUBFRAME. THE 300ZX DIFF HAS 4 RUBBER MOUNTS. THIS ALLOWS THE 300ZX DIFF. TO FLEX UP AND DOWN SLIGHTLY, WHICH COULD CAUSE THE SOLID MOUNTED COVER TO CRACK.

ALL I DID TO ELIMINATE THIS PROBLEM ON THE FRONT TWO MOUNTING POINTS WAS TAKE (2) M20 SIZE WASHERS AND (1) M16 SIZE WASHER AND SLIDE THEM OVER THE RUBBER MOUNT ON THE BOTTOM AND (3) M20 WASHERS ON THE TOP. THIS WILL COMPRESS THE RUBBER AND MOUNT THE DIFF. FIRMLY IN PLACE.

NOTE: YOU MUST USE THE 300ZX FRONT MOUNTING BOLTS, THE 240SX BOLTS ARE 1 INCH TOO SHORT.

9. LIFTING THE DIFF INTO PLACE, YOU MUST COMPRESS THE AXLES TO GET THEM BACK IN THE OUTPUT SHAFTS. ITS GOOD TO HAVE HELP WITH THIS.

10. ONCE THE AXLES ARE IN, MAKE SURE THE REAR MOUNTING STUDS ARE IN THEIR PLACE. DO NOT TIGHTEN THEM JUST YET. HOLD UP THE FRONT OF THE DIFF. AND REPLACE THE TWO MOUNTING BOLTS IN FRONT. DONT FORGET THE WASHERS. NOW YOU CAN TIGHTEN THE 4 MOUNTING NUTS ON THE BACK COVER.

11. BOLT UP THE AXLES TO THE NEW OUTPUT SHAFTS (12) 12MM BOLTS.

12. REPLACE THE DRIVESHAFT AND 14MM BOLTS

13. REPLACE EXHAUST IF REMOVED.

YOU ARE DONE. GO HAVE FUN tongue
